Alaska King Salmon Fishing
King Salmon or Chinook Salmon are the largest of all species of North pacific Salmon. South Central Alaska has a wide variety of streams that host seasonal runs of kings. The most famous of all Alaska king fisheries is the Kenai river located on the Kenai peninsula. Moving north of Anchorage there are several road system stream that also host good numbers of Alaska Chinook Salmon.
The closest river to Anchorage, Alaska’s largest city, is the Little Susitna river, also known as the Little Su. Moving north along the Parks hwy there are other good king salmon fishing opportunities in Willow creek, Little Willow creek, Sheep Creek, Montana creek and tributaries up the Talkeetna river such as Clear creek.
Our favorite is a stream that is not accessible by road at all that is on the west side of the Big Susitna River called the Deshka River. The Deshka river hosts good numbers of king salmon returns and provides the angler great opportunities for success.
